The Tripp mine trip 2018

The 20 CVMC members met at the meeting place in Keene on a completely different kind of morning than what we've become accustomed to this year. Today brought out the flannel shirts and sweat shirts as the morning temp was barely 50 degrees rather than hazy, hot and humid that had become the norm. After the customary paperwork and pre trip talk by Wayne we headed for the Tripp.

Since the mining has ceased there, and the only activity is the occasional Club trip, it isn't taking Mother Nature very long to take back what was hers from what had been a very active mine for quite a few years. This was most noticeable on the road going into the mine. The brush and saplings have made the road very narrow with branches and tall weeds brushing the vehicles almost all the way in.

The low brush and weeds are taking over much of the dump piles also but there was still plenty of digging available to the group. Wayne did a final talk once we were at the mine and the group was on their way. The ever popular Rose Quartz pit was the target of quite a few while others went for the dumps in hopes of finding previously missed Tripp mine Beryl. As for me it was Schorl Tourmaline, Graphic Granite, Radiation stained Quartz, Mica specimens and the unusual Mica specimens from the Clark mine that held my interest. There was no shortage of specimens this year with everybody finding their own sweet spots around the mine.

This year's Tripp trip was a little bitter sweet, with the mine property being up for sale, this could very well be the last time at the Tripp. It ended up being a great, almost fall like day with good collecting, good friends and the group finally ended their day about 4:30 for the journey home. With any luck the new owners of the Tripp and Clark mines will have some interest in keeping it open as a collecting site in the future.
It would certainly be a shame to lose this great collecting location!
